The Design Help Lectures

NEW SERVICE AND OPPORTUNITY FOR THOSE WHO NEED DESIGN HELP FOR THEIR HOMES. The Lectures are an excellent, 'value for money' service, introducing you to Debby Thurston and attendance to a course of five, two hour lectures, covering basic, but valuable information needed, for refurbishing you home.

The Lectures and their Content;

Budda madeleyThese are carefully prepared with visual presentation and notes to help you, when back at home planning your interior. They are in a specific order and relate to the next lecture and follow the path of a project.

Debby focuses on the reality of design and how you achieve it, without loosing the fun and glamour. There are plenty of coffee table books, showing dynamic and expensively fitted-out interiors, with no reference to the cost involved and the practicality of its installation. Few people can forget budget and unless professionally trained, have limited appreciation of how to go about achieving their ideas. All lectures take both aspects into consideration and give as much explanation as time permits on 'working with limitations'.

Lecture 1 - Style, Concept and Colour

After a short introduction to the course, the first lecture will discuss the importance and relevance of using a suitable style and how you develop this into a concept for your house. It will then explain the principles of using colour, texture and pattern and how to use it with paint and all interior finishes.

Lecture 2 - Planning Your Space

Budda madeleyThe lecture demonstrates the best use of space and how to measure up accurately and draw out your design simply. There are specific rules that can be applied to space planning and many are based on lifestyle, so a look at different houses, family lifestyle and entertaining requirements will be incorporated.

Lecture 3 - Lighting and the Services

The technology side of interior design is without doubt the largest growth area in the last 20 years and is becoming evermore confusing. Lighting is not rocket science and there is a fundamental approach that can be adopted for maximum results. The audio visual revolution is more complex, but knowing what questions to ask will help simplify and give you confidence.

Lecture 4 - Soft Furnishings

This is the part most people enjoy about interior design, but then find the huge array of choice in fabrics, furniture, window treatments and upholstery mind blowing. It's not so much a question of rules but sticking to your concept and balancing the aesthetics, with practicality and budget. This is still great fun and the lecture will include latest trends as well as essential advice.

Lecture 5 - Managing Your Project

The final lecture will focus on how to avoid some of the many pitfalls that befall so many projects, with an explanation of the process and general order of a project; who you may need to help you, what they do, their responsibilities and what you can do yourself. Project Management is a professional job and not always suitable to DIY. However, this session will be jam packed full of very important information to help you do the very best you can.
